India’s Focus on Neighbourhood First Policy Continues as FS Kwatra Visits Nepal
New Delhi : Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra arrived in Nepal on Monday for a two-day official visit, during which he will hold talks with the country’s top political leadership on the entire gamut of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. FS Kwatra has gone to Nepal on the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Bharat Raj Paudyal.
The visit is taking place, keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy prioritising its relations with Nepal. India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy is an integral part of Indian foreign policy. The policy seeks to build cordial and synergistic relations with India’s South Asian neighbours in various fields such as economy, science & technology, research and education. Landlocked Nepal relies heavily on India for the transportation of goods and services, and India never steps back in offering a helping hand to its neighbour.
The Foreign Secretary concluded his first round of meeting with Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, reviewing the wide ranging India-Nepal partnership. The Indian Embassy in Nepal tweeted, “Both sides agreed to further strengthen their economic and development cooperation for benefit of the two countries and region as a whole.”
During this visit, FS Kwatra will also discuss various matters of bilateral cooperation such as connectivity, power trade, agriculture, health and culture, among other issues through different official meetings with top political leaders, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML President K.P. Sharma Oli.
