Second G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group meeting held in udaipur, discussion on raising financial resources for climate change
New Delhi: The 2nd Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) meeting under
India’s G20 Presidency began in Udaipur, Rajasthan today. The three-day meeting focused on identifying relevant policies and best practices to mobilize sustainable finance to help ensure global growth and stability. For the first time in this group meeting, issues related to climate change were discussed beyond data and reporting related to nature and its social impact. During the meeting, the mechanism for raising financial resources for climate change was discussed in detail. Along with this, topics like climate budget tagging, public participation program and capacity building for environment were also brainstormed. More than 90 delegates from different countries are participating during the three-day meeting. This meeting will continue till March 23.
A workshop was also organized today on the sidelines of the meeting where the first
workshop was based on non-pricing policy to support sustainable investment. The second
workshop to be held on Wednesday i.e. 22nd March will be on Enabling Finance for the
Sustainable Development Goals. As a prelude to the 2nd G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group, various ‘Jan Bhagidari’ events are being organized in Udaipur from March 18 to 23 to create awareness about India’s G20 Presidency. These events include Townhall Meeting for MSME Entrepreneurs, Seminar
on Bridging the Financing Gap of SDGs, Role of Microfinance at IIM Udaipur, Conference
on ‘Green Finance – A Way Forward’, Digital Banking Education Programme, Session on
Cyber Hygiene and Cyber Security , G20 Financial Literacy Walkathon, Financial Literacy Camp, Mela and Awareness Program by Jaipur etc. All the guests who reached Udaipur a day earlier were given a grand welcome in Mewari style. The program to take all the foreign guests to Kumbhgarh Fort who attended the meeting is scheduled for March 24. The first meeting of the SFWG was held in Guwahati on 2nd and 3 rd February this year. The third meeting will be held in mahabalipuram and the fourth in Varanasi.
