Kolkata Hosts Special Session on World Telecom Day to Discuss Information and Communication Technologies
Kolkata – The Public Relations Society of India, Kolkata Chapter, organized a remarkable session at the Press Club to commemorate World Telecom Day. This gathering brought together influential figures, experts, and enthusiasts from the telecommunications industry to delve into the transformative influence of information and communication technologies (ICT).
The session shed light on the immense potential of ICT to drive positive change, particularly in developing nations. Debasis Sarkar, Chief General Manager of Calcutta Telephones, BSNL, took the stage and shared profound insights into the current state of the telecom sector in India.
World Telecom Day is an annual celebration that emphasizes the global significance of telecommunications and advocates for universal access to information and communication technologies. The event acknowledges the advancements made in the field and aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring connectivity for all.
Drawing from his extensive background in the telecommunications sector, Sarkar’s illustrious career encompasses various pivotal roles. Notably, he served in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) from 1989 to 2000, occupying diverse positions across West Bengal, Manipur, and Bihar. Since 2000, Sarkar has been instrumental in driving the growth and development of BSNL, holding progressively responsible positions in West Bengal, Assam, and Kolkata.
As the Chief General Manager of Kolkata Telephones, Sarkar currently oversees critical aspects such as management, operations, revenue generation, and growth, ensuring the efficient functioning of the organization.
Soumyajit Mahapatra, Chairman of the Kolkata Chapter, skillfully moderated the session. He emphasized the Public Relations Society of India, Kolkata Chapter’s steadfast dedication to fostering knowledge exchange and professional development within the telecommunications industry.
