Ethiopia’s Yehualaw and Kenya’s Ebenyo Set to Debut at Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2023
Kolkata : The Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, a prominent running festival and World Athletics Elite Label Road Race in India, will showcase the talents of Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw, the 10K world record-holder, and Kenyan Daniel Simiyu Ebenyo, a double world championship silver medallist.
The #AamarKolkataAamarRun event will witness top global athletes in action competing for a total prize pool of US $100,000. Both men’s and women’s winners will receive equal prize money, with the top three in each category standing to win $7500, $5000, and $3500, along with a potential Event Record Bonus of US $3,000.
Yehualaw, holding the 10K world record and boasting an impressive half marathon time, is set to make her debut at the Kolkata 25K. Her teammate Anchinalu Dessie and Kenyan Betty Chepkemoi Kibet are anticipated challengers in the women’s race.
Ebenyo, a decorated Kenyan athlete, clinched two world championship silver medals this year. His compatriots Roncer Kipkorir Konga and Bernard Biwott are expected to offer fierce competition in the men’s category.
Vivek Singh, Joint MD of Procam International, expressed excitement over the competitive line-up, stating, “The presence of seasoned winners like Daniel Ebenyo and Yalemzerf Yehualaw will not only raise the bar for the race but also give our Indian distance runners much-needed exposure to some of the world’s best distance athletes.”
The Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2023, scheduled for December 17, 2023, promises to deliver thrilling performances along the banks of the Hooghly River, with a star-studded field ready to set new records.
