“Rotary Club of Belur Launches ‘Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention’ Project in Collaboration with Narayana Hospital and Partners”

Kolkata : In alignment with the World Health Organization’s designation of January as Global Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Rotary Club of Belur, in partnership with Narayana Hospital, Howrah, inaugurates the ‘Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention’ Project. The initiative focuses on addressing the significant health burden of cervical cancer, particularly in low and middle-income countries.
Mr. Hira Lal Yadav, Rotary District Governor 3291, commended the collaborative efforts, stating, “Rotary acknowledges the transformative power of partnerships in creating a positive impact on public health.” The project, supported by international and local Rotary Clubs, aims to reduce cancer incidence among women through parental awareness campaigns, HPV vaccinations, and knowledge dissemination.
Mr. Vishnu Dhandhania, Project Chair of RC Belur, outlined the primary activities targeting rural districts around Kolkata. Over the next year, the project aims to vaccinate 2000 girls aged 9-14 against HPV, extending efforts to underserved communities.
Dr. Kaustav Basu, Senior Consultant at Narayana Hospital, emphasized the importance of HPV vaccination and early detection through screening tests like PAP smear and Colposcopy. Narayana Hospital will conduct awareness sessions and vaccination drives in schools throughout January and February.
Mr. Amar Malhotra, President, RC Belur, highlighted the collaboration with international Rotary Clubs and Young Indians, showcasing a commitment to global cervical cancer prevention.
According to Mr. Ashim Kumar, Facility Director of Narayana Hospital, Howrah, the partnership reflects a commitment to community health, emphasizing the importance of early detection in the fight against cervical cancer.
