Kolkata: The “All India Legal Aid Forum” organized a seminar in Kolkata titled Human Rights Violations Against the Hindu Community in Bangladesh, shedding light on the ongoing persecution faced by the Hindu minority in Bangladesh since August 2024.
Over the past four months, local criminal groups have reportedly targeted the Hindu community with relentless atrocities, including property destruction, temple desecration, and unlawful detention of community leaders. Activists highlighted the inaction of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, accusing authorities of not only failing to prevent such acts but allegedly inciting further violence.

Social media platforms have exacerbated the situation by fueling hate speech, which has led to increased violence and the displacement of numerous families. Arbitrary arrests of Hindu religious leaders have further eroded the moral and spiritual support for the community, violating international human rights standards.
The forum has called on the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and the Bangladesh government to take immediate action. Their demands include releasing detained leaders, addressing hate speech, ensuring the safety of minorities, and upholding justice to protect the rights of the Hindu community.
The speakers emphasized that urgent intervention is crucial to prevent further escalation and to uphold international human rights obligations.
