St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata to offer 3 new PG courses
St. Xavier College will start Post Graduate Courses inEnglish, Political Science in the Kolkata Campus and in Bengali in its rural campus in Raghabpur, South 24 Parganas from the Academic Year 2019-20.
Driven by this mission to serve the marginalized and the downtrodden, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata opened its rural campus in Raghabpur in 24-Parganas (South) in 2014. A number of UG and PG Courses are being run successfully at this campus. And a PG course in Bengali will be offered from the academic session July 2019-20. To facilitate academic expansion and fulfill the needs of rural students, a G+4 storied Academic cum Utility Building is being constructed in the Raghabpur Campus of the College. The foundation stone was laid and the site was blessed on 16th March, 2019.
Other Courses: One more section in Basic French Course, which is already running successfully, will commence from this Academic Session, 2019-20 in the Main Campus of the College.
St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata under the leadership of the Principal, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio S.J., has obtained accreditation under ISO 9001: 2015 which is relevant in the evaluation procedure of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The College is in the process of conducting the Gap Audit Exercises regularly.
Online Admit Card System: The College is going to introduce Online Admit Card Systems for all Semester Examinations where all students can view his/her eligibility and the eligible candidates can download their Admit Cards for Semester Examinations directly from the College Website.
Finance Lab in the College: It is now all set to have a state of the art Finance Lab in the College, the first of its kind in any College in the country, from the beginning of this new academic session which will help students who are studying subjects related to Business and Finance to get real practical insights of the industry and get to know how the real industry works.
This will also open new doors to the students, research scholars and faculty members for conducting high end research. The students will be imparted trainings on how to use high end databases (like Prowess, Ace Equity, Capital Line, India stat, Bloomberg) and conduct research in their desired areas by application of sophisticated statistical tools (like SPSS, R Software, SAS software, Python, Mat Lab, STATA, etc.). This will help the students to deal with real research problems whose outcome will be invaluable for the economy and the country at large.
Innovations: With evolution of time, the College is making all necessary efforts to keep pace with the changing requirements of the job market so that it can prepare the students and bring in and support innovations in every sphere of the institution. For example, one of the most hi-tech digital libraries of the country, students’ tab based attendance system, plastic free green campus, solar panels, digital projections in each classroom, taxation software, ISO standards certifications, to name a few. The College has a number of foreign exchange programs for students and faculties with foreign colleges and universities .
New International Chapter of the College Alumni:The 10th International Chapter of the St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association (SXCCAA) will be inaugurated on 17th May, 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The President of the SXCCAA, Principal & Rector of the College Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Dominic Savio, SJ, will inaugurate the Chapter in presence of the Alumni/ae, residing in South Africa and adjacent areas and also a group going from India to attend the ceremony.
Future Plans: Introducing from the session 2020, 4 PG courses: M.Ed., M.A. in Sociology, M.Sc. in Economics, and M.Sc. in Chemistry.Creating a seed fund for promoting and assisting research in the college.Developing the Social Science departments.Ideating the possibility of introducing inter-disciplinary studies adjusted to industry requirements.Training sessions to prepare students for job interviews and developing their professional competencies.Women’s Study Centre to be set up in the College The special focus of these Centers would be on most marginalized and disadvantaged women in the society. Some of the probable activities of the Centre would be teaching, research, training, extension and publication. |
Admission Schedule for the Academic Session 2019-20
- PG Courses:
The online application process to all PG courses (MA in English, MA in Political Science, MA in Bengali, M.Com., M.Sc. in Computer Science, M.Sc. in Physics, M.Sc. in Microbiology) has begun and will continue till 20th May, 2019.
The admission test for all the PG courses will be held on 25th May, 2019.
The 1st list of selected candidates to PG courses will be published on 8th June, 2019.
1st Year Inaugurations and commencement of all PG classes will be on 10th July, 2019.
- UG & Integrated Courses:
The last date of online application process to:
- B.Com. (Morning & Evening) and BMS for ISC / CBSE Boards is 31st May, 2019 and for WBHS and other Boards is 7th June, 2019. The Entrance Exam for BMS (ISC/CBSE Boards) is scheduled on 1st June, 2019 and for WBHS Board candidates is on 8th June, 2019.
- UG and Integrated courses (English, Political Science, Sociology, Bengali, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Microbiology, BA General, Computer Science, MCV, 5-year integrated M.Sc. course in Biotechnology, 5-year integrated M.Sc. course in Multimedia) for all Boards began on 6th May, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. and shall continue till 7th June, 2019.
The 1st list of selected candidates for interview to:
- B.Com. &BMS for ISC/CBSE Boards will be published on 4th June, 2019 and for WBHS and other Boards will be published on 13th June, 2019.
- English, Political Science, Sociology, Bengali, BA General will be published on 13th June, 2019;
- Economics, Computer Science, Microbiology, 5-year integrated M.Sc. course in Biotechnology, will be published on 14th June, 2019;
- Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics, MCV, 5-year integrated M.Sc. course in Multimedia will be published on 18th June, 2019.
The Entrance Examination for MCV and M.Sc. Multimedia will be held on 10th June, 2019.
1st Year Inaugurations and commencement of classes to all the UG and Integrated Courses will take place on 1st July, 2019.
