Powerful Exhibition & Panel Discussion Unveils “The Stolen Star” Film’s Impact on Child Welfare and Mental Health
Kolkata : An exhibition and panel discussion surrounding the film “The Stolen Star,” directed by Sourav Sarkar, took place at the Press Club Auditorium in Kolkata. The film, which portrays the tragic suicide of 12-year-old Arka Chakraborty in Canada, aimed to shed light on the pressing issues of child bullying, mental health, and the failure of systems to protect vulnerable children.
The film not only delivers a poignant message but also features expert analysis from renowned clinical psychologist Dr. Prasant Kr. Roy, Dr. Doyel Ghosh, and child rights advocate Erwin Elman. Director Sourav Sarkar’s purpose behind this film was to raise awareness and create a conscious effort in society to prevent such terrible incidents from befalling children and their families.
The panel discussion, which followed the film screening, delved into the preventability of suicidal deaths and the importance of recognizing the indicators of suicidality across age groups. It emphasized the need for proper mental health support for children and called on public institutions and state bodies to shoulder the responsibilities of emotional protection for vulnerable children.
Dr. Tinni Datta, one of the panelists, highlighted the harsh reality of bullying and its effects on both bullies and victims. She stressed the importance of handling impulsivity and inadequacy to create a world of pleasure and cherished memories for all children.
