Kolkata : Amazon.in has reported remarkable double-digit growth in Kolkata and West Bengal during the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023, with the city ranking among the top 10 high-performing regions in the Consumer Electronics and Personal Computing category. This growth is attributed to financial incentives like no-cost EMI, encouraging customers to opt for premium products and upgrade their appliances during the festive season. Tier 2 and 3 cities in West Bengal have contributed significantly to the demand for Consumer Electronics and Personal Computing products.

In addition to this success, Amazon’s ‘Amazon Xperience Arena’ (AXA) gave Kolkata residents a sneak peek into the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023. This one-of-a-kind showcase provided a platform for media, influencers, and customers to interact with their favorite brands and products, all while participating in engaging activities across seven interactive zones.

Nishant Sardana, Director of Consumer Electronics, Personal Computing, and Large Appliances at Amazon India, expressed excitement, noting that Kolkata’s appetite for premium products and upgrades is driving the region’s growth. Additionally, the appliances category saw an impressive year-on-year growth of over 80% during the festival.

Here are key trends observed in Consumer Electronics, Personal Computing, and Large Appliances categories on Amazon.in in Kolkata:

Consumer Electronics and Personal Computing:

  1. High-Growth Categories: Tablets, laptops, soundbars, and speakers experienced significant year-over-year growth, with an increase of almost 50%.
  2. Shift Toward Premiumization: The premium category, featuring products priced above 50,000, witnessed 2x growth compared to last year.
  3. Increased Demand for Better Storage: Gamers in the region prefer high-performance devices with more storage capacity, resulting in substantial growth for 16GB RAM and 1 TB storage.
  4. Rising Popularity of Smartwatches: Smartwatches saw an 80% year-on-year growth, with a preference for AMOLED displays.
  5. Top-Selling Products: Smartwatches like Fire-Boltt Ninja Call Pro Plus and Noise Pulse 2 Max, headphones such as boAt Bassheads, and laptops like Apple Macbook Air are customer favorites.
  6. Brand Preferences: HP, Acer, Dell, and HyperX are the top PC gaming brands, while Apple, boAt, HP, ASUS, Acer, Samsung, Lenovo, Fireboltt, Dell, and Sony are the top 10 brands.

Large Appliances:

  1. Affordable Options Drive Growth: Kolkata experienced an 80%+ year-on-year growth in the home appliances category, with affordability options playing a key role.
  2. Preferred Categories: Air-Conditioners and Refrigerators showed substantial year-on-year growth.
  3. Popular Brands: Samsung, LG, and Daikin were the preferred brands for appliance upgrades.

West Bengal has been instrumental in Amazon’s growth in India, with investments in physical infrastructure and programs to support small sellers. Amazon India has several large fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations in Kolkata, providing employment opportunities and convenience to customers and sellers.

Amazon India also created over 100,000 seasonal job opportunities across its operations network during the Indian festive season. These opportunities have contributed to economic growth in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai.
