Nadia District, West Bengal : Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at Border Outpost Khajibagan, 32 Battalion, South Bengal Frontier, intercepted an attempted gold smuggling operation along the international border between Nadia District of West Bengal and Bangladesh. The vigilant troops successfully seized two gold bricks weighing a total of 1.950 kg, with an estimated market value of Rs 1,39,44,450.

The operation unfolded following intelligence received by the BSF Intelligence Department on April 14, indicating a potential gold smuggling attempt. Acting swiftly, the Post Commander of Border Outpost Khajibagan deployed heightened surveillance and organized a special ambush along suspected routes.

At approximately 0545 hours, jawans observed suspicious activity as five individuals clandestinely approached the border fencing from the Bangladesh side, while an equal number of Indian smugglers advanced from mango orchards on the opposite end. Upon spotting a packet tossed across the fencing from the Bangladesh side, BSF personnel intervened, prompting the smugglers to flee towards the Indian side, evading capture.

Despite the smugglers’ escape, BSF forces retrieved the packet, revealing the concealed gold bricks. Subsequently, the contraband was handed over to the Customs Office, Banpur, for further legal proceedings.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful interception, Sh. A.K Arya, DIG and Public Relations Officer of BSF, South Bengal Frontier, commended the vigilance of the jawans. Arya highlighted the nefarious tactics employed by smuggling syndicates, targeting vulnerable individuals with promises of monetary gain. He urged border residents to utilize BSF’s Seema Sathi helpline (14419) to report any suspicious activities, offering anonymity and potential rewards for credible information. Additionally, a dedicated WhatsApp number (9903472227) has been established for convenient reporting of gold smuggling-related intelligence.
